Hershey can’t score late, take 3-2 overtime loss to Laval

Casey Saussaman | The Hershey Bears

Hershey scored the opening two goals in their Wednesday night visit to Laval. Then, they allowed three goals in the third period and one in overtime to lose, 3-2, to Laval Rocket.

Jake Massie scored the opening goal in the game, a Quebec native with over 20 friends and family members in attendance to see their hometown hero. It was his second goal of the season. Massie left the game with under a minute remaining in regulation with a lower-body injury after colliding with Laval’s Rafaël Harvey-Pinard.

Chase Priskie scored the second goal of the game, his eighth of the season. Seven of those eight are on the power-play. It gave Hershey a 2-0 advantage with 4:09 remaining in the opening period.

Laval outshot Hershey 8-5 in the middle period, but no one converted into the net to keep Hershey ahead 2-0.

Sean Farrell scored Laval’s first goal of the game, with 12:06 remaining in the game for an attempt at a late-game rally. Laurent Dauphin scored the equalizer a minute and five seconds later, tying it 2-2 in 4-on-4 play.

Adam Engström hit the dagger, just over a minute into overtime. It solidified their three-goal comeback for the win, improving Laval’s record to 24-11. Laval leads the North Division.

Ethan Bear dressed for his 400th professional game in the loss. He was in on the assist for Chase Priskie’s goal.

“We played a good first period, but a crappy second and third. All three goals against us were preventable. They’re just one-on-one battles with us getting beat. Shep played outstanding. He’s the main reason why we got the one point.” – Todd Nelson on tonight’s performance

“No, he was good, but it shouldn’t have even gone to 4-on-4. They run our goalie. We should have been on the power play, not 4-on-4.” – Todd Nelson on Laval’s 4-on-4 goal
